Cantor Arts Center: Interaction of Color

Journey through the works Josef Albers at the Anderson Collection in the Cantor Art Center at Stanford. His work represents a transition between traditional European art and the new American art with the focus on intense color and pattern. Learn the color theories of the Bauhaus followed by onsite color exercises taught using an iPad or iPhone.

Cantor Arts Center entry is free, but there is a parking charge of $2.50 per hour. Class will meet at the Center.

deYoung Museum: Cult of the Machine Exhibition

Explore the world of Precisionism at the "Cult of the Machine" exhibition at the de Young. Characterized by highly structured, geometric compositions with smooth surfaces, linear qualities, and lucid forms. Precisionism—a style that flourished in America in the 1920s and 1930s - is currently relevant for all artists, especially digital painters.

Legion of Honor: The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood

This tour at The Legion of Honor, focuses on the exhibition of Pre-Raphaelite and Old Masters. In 1848—a year of political revolution across Europe—seven young Englishmen formed an artistic alliance aspiring to rebel against the contemporary Victorian art world. These artists defied idealized figures popularized by Raphael and other High Renaissance artists. The tour is followed by an onsite workshop of drawing and sketching the works by these masters.

SF MoMa: Matisse at MOMA

The SF MoMA collection contains some lovely examples of Matisse's drawings and paintings. On this tour, closely study and learn about Matisse's use of line, shape and color. Followed by an onsite workshop creating your own studies and artwork inspired by Matisse and his artistic process.

SF MoMa: Richter and Kiefer Exploration
This tour focuses on the 6th floor of SF MoMA and its unique collection of works by Gerhard Richter and Anself Kiefer, two very different but influential German contemporary artists. After experiencing and discussing the different works we will make our own drawings, artwork and even color sketches based on their influences.
