MEET-UP VENUE: We will meet at 9.30am at the SHORELINE BOATHOUSE CAFE.
DIRECTIONS:  I have attached a map. If coming from North you turn south on Shoreline Blvd and drive as far as it will take  you until you see the gate (no entry fee required).  Drive in and around the golf course until you reach the end which will be a parking lot.  The Boathouse is right there and the cafe is beside it where we can get a warm drink and meet up before we go for a short hike around the lake.
MATERIALS: Please bring a small sketchbook and pencils (HC and 2B or higher if you can) with a pencil sharpener and an eraser.  We will have lots of pencils but we have lots of students coming, so would prefer you bring you own.  You can also bring a fine tip black pen if you would like.
We will have materials there for you to try out.  We will also have instructional materials for you.

Sports Painting Workshop

Inspired by a passion for both art and sport, local artist Darren Kerr has created dozens of original paintings of athletes from the San Francisco Giants, Golden State Warriors, San Jose Sharks, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland A’s, and other local teams.  This two day workshop will demonstrate the process and techniques to create your own original sports artwork.  Darren will cover the basics of how to shoot photo references of athletes, how to use these photos to create dynamic compositions, experimenting with quick study paintings, methods of transferring your best compositions to canvas, mixing and matching colors, and techniques for making your artwork exciting and original.  We will go over several sports artists’ work and discuss aesthetics of various styles.  To get the most out of the workshop, students are encouraged to enroll in both Sunday workshops, but we can accommodate students for a single day as well.

Stylizing Images

Stylize is defined as a means to represent something according to a practical format or structure, rather than the rules of nature.

As photographers, we strive to “make” images that are different and exude a “personal” feel. Where do you start? Where do you get inspiration? How do you go about making unique images? What tools do you need?

The Stylizing Images workshop is about “discovering” your inner artistry and giving you the tools that will enable you to turn your images into masterpieces. We start the workshop by showing examples on how “standard” images have been processed to make compelling masterpieces. (See the transformation of the ballerina photo.)

Let reknowned photographer, Oliver Klink, teach you the step-by-step process that will enable you to turn your photographs into masterpieces. Through hands-on exercises and increasing your knowledge of photoshop, you’ll leave the workshop with the standard image and the finished one with all the steps and layers.

Upon signing up for the workshop, you will receive a coursebook with recommended readings, what to bring, and much more.

Additional Information

Photoshop knowledge is a prerequisite. Oliver will supply you with the a photoshop tutorial link that must be taken prior to the Workshop.

Workshop: Have Your Artwork Professionally Photographed

Your original artwork will be professionally photographed under calibrated lighting using a 36 MB camera and is suitable for fine art giclée prints and internet use. The files will be saved on a USB memory stick in two formats (JPEG for Internet use and DNG for Printing). Approximately 20 pieces of artwork can be photographed during your hour (more if artwork is close to the same size). If time permits, basic photo editing of your images will be provided. Your artwork can be paintings, mixed media, pottery, sculpture, jewelry or anything you can carry.

Past experience has shown that 25 or so pictures can be photographed in the hour, dropping the cost to about $5 per image. In addition, if you have friends with Artwork, but not enough pieces to fill the hour, you can share your time slot and cost with them.

Discounted printing of your art on paper, canvas or metal is available to attendees. Please bring at least a 4 GB USB flash drive to hold the images, or purchase an 8GB one from instructor for $10.

Your Subconscious Form

This is a course for artists of all disciplines. Artists will concentrate on their subconscious world by not only painting or drawing but also meditating with their own canvas. The goal of this course will be to create engaging works of art that explore the boundaries between your rational and creative mind. Drawing and painting subconsciously are essential tools for the formation and development of your art career. Artists will explore foundational layout and composition, as well as conceptual brainstorming strategies. It is not a place to ask you how to paint but to question why to paint. By the end of the course, artists will come out with series of solid work made purely from their own subconscious world.
