ONLINE: Head Drawing with Darren Kerr

Applying an academic approach, students will draw portraits from live video of model and from photo shoot images, while experimenting with different drawing styles. We will examine and critique portrait examples from various artists, and incorporate what we have learned into our class drawings.

Topics covered will include materials (types of paper, pencils, charcoal, erasers, proportional divider), techniques for applying line and tone, facial anatomy and proportions, edge control, choosing interesting poses and compositions, and developing our unique style.

Each class will begin with a discussion and review of student work from previous week, followed by a short demo, after which students will draw from video stream of model and/or still photo images. Students can turn Zoom camera on their drawings, so Instructor can provide feedback.

Darren will follow up weekly via email with related homework assignments, reference images, and instructional lessons in written and video format.
